This module aims to introduce students to the history, evolution, and utilization of social media in everyday society. Students will be able to gain an understanding and experience the application of social media interactions and content creation in an academic setting. Students will be exposed to both theoretical and practical applications of social media technologies and content. There will be regular progress checks, feedback and constructive critique with analytical approaches via online contact and face-to-face class time. 

The module is supported by a combination of lectures and practical sessions. Assessment strategies are to evaluate students’ mastery of the learning objectives through practical projects and academic writing. Assessments and project milestones are in place to monitor the students’ understanding of the learning outcomes. Assignments will assess the students’ fundamentals of the history of proto-social media and its contemporary usage, as well as real-world applications of the medium.
