This module will enable postgraduate students to improve their reading, writing, and speaking skills in order to communicate more effectively in the English Language. The focus will be on developing students' summarizing, paraphrasing, synthesizing and presentation skills, as well as linguistic accuracy for their postgraduate studies. Students will also be exposed to research vocabulary to provide them with some of the lexical resource that they would require as postgraduate students.

The teaching and learning approach for this module will be student-centered learning. Students are required to be active participants during class sessions in order to achieve optimum improvement in their ability to communicate in English.

The mode of delivery for this course will be via face-to-face lecture and blended learning using MyTimes platform. Students will be able to access class materials such as lecture notes, pre-recorded videos, and exercises.

Student assessments will be conducted throughout the duration of the module through rigorous coursework assessments. The 5 assessments include: Identifying Main Ideas, Developing Sentence Structures, Paraphrasing and Expressing Main Ideas, Summarising & Synthesising, and Final Presentation. Students are required to attempt all these task assessments which cover various skills as these evaluation tools will be used to measure their performance.

At the end of this course, postgraduate students should be able to participate effectively in group discussions and presentations; engage effectively in communication with supervisors and peers; and compose written work using appropriate styles of writing.
