The module aim is to introduce students with the necessary pedagogical approach and the role of research, knowledge and skills to formulate research problems, develop appropriate investigative approaches, interpret data and present findings. The knowledge and skills developed will provide broad-based support for students to engage in a reflective scholarship for all of their taught modules. The module will also expose students to the rigor of intensive reading, writing and discussion whose product will provide a solid foundation for subsequent Dissertation module.

 

Research Methods acts as an anchor to introduce the pedagogical approach and the role of research and its relation to the built environment as an impetus to knowledge acquisition. The module introduces a range of research methods used for built environment study. It emphasizes on developing the students abilities in carrying out self-directed learning for research through the discussion of various research methods and the development of research skills, leading to the development of a research proposal for subsequent Dissertation studies. The module will hold the assessment approach for ground and individual tasks focusing on critical, creative and problem solving skills.
